Getting your balancing act together

I’ve worked with a lot of CEOs over the years, and to be honest, I think the job has never been more difficult than it is right now.

Keeping up with technology and the pace of change, ensuring you’re getting the best out of your people and living with the prospect of an uncertain future.

I’m sure there’s little satisfaction in knowing everyone’s in the same boat, however if you are feeling the pressure, here’s how I can help.

Fully aligned and relentlessly focussed on outcomes

To start with I’ll bring the business and technology leaders together, ensuring we’re aligned on expectations, outcomes, and how they’ll support the overall business goals. Throughout the process we’ll remain relentlessly focussed on that, as opposed to the software that needs to be built.

Independent, unbiased advice on technology

You’re often faced with the choice of building something yourself, or buying it off-the-shelf and having to adapt accordingly. It’s a balancing act between speed, and functionality.

OPTION A - Off-the-shelf should be quicker, but you’ll have to live with the compromise.

OPTION B - Building it yourself might take longer, but you should have more control.

I can help you decide which option is best for your needs.

OPTION A – Off the shelf

Avoiding dead-ends and cul-de-sacs

Technology vendors will try and convince you their implementation of a particular technology is right for you, however what you really need to do is look under the hood, and find out what technologies are being used. Because without knowing that you’re making a decision that could get you into trouble further down the line. Sound familiar..?

OPTION B – Building it yourself

Growing the capacity to build it internally

Building your own software is, almost always, going to give you the best result. Now you can choose to outsource the work to an agency, and they’ll build EXACTLY what you ask for, which is never what you actually need.

Or you can build the software internally, update, tweak and learn as you go, and get something different from what you intended, but works better than you expected.

The only problem, of course, is you have to have the skills and capacity to do it, maintain and adapt it when required. That’s where I come in.

  • I can help your people custom build the software, and as a ‘hands-on’ technical expert I’ll be right there beside them, coaching, training and guiding throughout.

  • Once the project is complete your team will be able to handle anything that turns up in the future, and I can remain on in an advisory capacity, ready to help when required, if you want.
