Unlike many consultancies you may have contacted in the past, there’s no cost incurred until the end, when we’re all on the same page and you engage me to work with you on a fixed costs basis, to achieve a specific business outcome. Additionally, there’s every chance I may have solved your problem before any cost is incurred, in which case I’ll be happy to have helped.


1. Discovery

First of all we’ll just have a chat to get to know each other. We’ll cut through the capability you want, or the problem you need to solve and get to the outcome you’re trying to achieve.

If there’s value in that outcome and we both feel there’s a good fit, I can explore a few different ways of getting there. If there’s a simple, easy solution I’ll point you in the right direction straight away.


2. Approaches

There are generally a variety of ways to achieve an outcome, so I’ll run through the options and narrow it down to one or two approaches that seem to make sense for your situation.

If the work required is more suitable for another firm, I’ll make an introduction, let you get on with it and look forward to seeing a successful outcome.

If it turns out I can be of assistance, we’ll have the confidence that other avenues have been explored, and an engagement makes sense.


3. Proposal

Now we have clarity on what needs to be done, I’ll prepare a proposal outlining:

  • the outcome to be achieved
  • the tasks to be undertaken
  • the timescales involved
  • what I need to do
  • what you need to do
  • the risks and assumptions involved
  • what’s being guaranteed
  • a fixed price for the work

I’m only interested in projects that create value and to ensure we are aligned on this, I work on a fixed price basis to achieve the outcome. I don’t charge by the hour. There is no day rate. You won’t pay a cent over the fixed cost in the proposal.


4. Engagement

As a ‘hands-on’ software engineering expert I’ll work with you, and your team to achieve an agreed upon outcome. I’ll teach through example, as well as training, guiding and coaching your software engineers and technical leaders along the way.

There will be work to be done across the organisation, and by the end not only will we have achieved the outcome, but your technical team’s capacity will have increased, and cross functional cooperation will have increased too.
